Belmont Park Horse Betting Selections

Belmont Park Betting

Bettors will have their hands full on Saturday at Belmont Park, trying to decide which end of the pool to jump into. While the Belmont Stakes, and the rematch between Kentucky Derby winner ANIMAL KINGDOM and Preakness winner SHACKLEFORD will garner the headlines, there is plenty of top-notch racing before we ever get to the big race.

A series of six graded stakes begin in Race 6 (2:34 ET), and for bettors this will be the beginning of a $1 Million Guaranteed All-Stakes Pick Six. Two races later in Race 8 (3:59 ET), bettors can try their hand at the $1 Million Guaranteed All-Stakes Pick Four. Both wagers conclude with the Belmont Stakes at 6:35 ET.

Race 6 is the $300,000 TVG Acorn-G1 for three-year-old fillies at one mile, and it features a heavy betting favorite in 2-TURBULENT DESCENT (3/5). This filly has lost only once in six career starts, already winning a pair of Grade I races. She has traveled across the country from California, and does not have the benefit of a work over the track at Belmont Park, but she is clearly the one to beat.

4-IT’S TRICKY (6/1) won the first three starts of her career in dominant fashion before running into R HEAT LIGHTNING in the Gulfstream Park Oaks-G2 in early April. She’s reunited with jockey Eddie Castro and could prove the biggest threat.

6-SNOW FALL (8/1) has won consecutive starts at Fair Grounds and Delaware Park, and she owns the second-best Beyer Speed Figure in the field. 5-VICTORIA’S WILDCAT (10/1) came off the bench with a big win in the Eight Belles-G3 at Churchill Downs, but may have been aided by an “outside closer’s bias” that day.

Of course it wouldn’t be a stakes without Todd Pletcher, and he enters 3-SAVVY SUPREME (5/1), a half-length from being unbeaten in three starts and the only filly with a win over this track, and 1-HER SMILE (8/1), who is better than she showed in the Kentucky Oaks.

If the favorite can’t get the job done, this race is up for grabs.

Race 7 is the $250,000 True North Handicap-G3 for three-year-olds and upwards at six furlongs, and several starters in here will be renewing acquaintances.

3-TRAPPE SHOT (5/2) comes off a win in an overnight stake over the track and distance, but there was only a half-length separating him from 1-D’FUNNYBONE (2/1) at the wire. 4-RULE BY NIGHT (6/1) finished two lengths behind the top pair but he was making his first start in nearly six months.

5-CALIBRACHOA (7/2) has won three consecutive races, including a pair of graded stakes, since being claimed for $40,000 last November by Todd Pletcher. But it is noteworthy that leading rider Ramon Dominguez chose to ride RULE BY NIGHT in this race.

1A-THIS ONES FOR PHIL (2/1) came back from a lengthy layoff to win a minor stake at Monmouth Park, easily defeating today’s rival 2-WILDCAT BRIEF (8/1). This gelding is “freaky fast” on his best day and 5-for-6 at today’s six-furlong distance.

While race fans and bettors wait in anticipation for the main event, they are going to be treated to some outstanding racing – and outstanding wagering opportunities.
