SO NEAR YET SO FAR…

You had to feel for the connections of Zenyatta and of course the public at large.

I got interviewed just before the off in the Chuchill Downs paddock of the big race by a British TV crew.

It’s all down to Mike Smith, he has the horse …. he has to time his run to perfection. He cannot make a mistake like he did on Mine That Bird in the Preakness last year.

Well did he make a mistake ???? The jury is still out in some quarters but here is something to ponder on over the next few days.

The gate loaders went on record saying “No favours for any horse that plays up at the start”

No fractions were given on the big screen outdoor TV’s, plus the race caller never made any. Unusual to say the least, the splits being available for every other race.

I even asked the presenter of AT THE RACES if he had the splits; he in turn asked his producer in London UK, non were available.

When you have a horse with a closing running style like Zenyatta knowing the splits are crucial, yes the jock should be the judge of pace, but all of a sudden he is put in a position that he is unfamiliar with.

Why would their be no splits, no cooperation from the gate staff…BLAME is a local horse, a terrific local horse, home turf favouritism….all will be revealed in a movie coming to a movie theater near you………..H.W.
